Please consider adopting an adult cat. Adult cats are calmer, better behaved and cause less damage to furniture, drapes, ect. They have developed personalities-no surprises here. Adult cats are physically mature, which means, what you see is what you get. Also, you will feel good knowing that you gave an adult cat a second chance.
